Best of StockTwits: Night night for $TPX
June 6, 2012: 1:55 PM ETOnce upon a mattress ... Tempur-Pedic (TPX) and Mattress Firm (MFRM) both issued warnings. You probably know where this is going.
MarketPlunger: $TPX People finally realizing those mattresses aren't good for stuffing cash inside.
biggercapital: First warning for $TPX since last recession. Won't be the last
firstadopter: $TPX call: this competitive environment is not going to go away. Increasing price competition between retailers selling the same product
Trending123: @fundmyfund $TPX is also a perfect example of a cheap stock "getting much cheaper".....holy smokes.....and they just warned last month
The lesson here is that tough price competition in what's essentially a commodity business (no matter what all those fancy commercials about adjustable beds and customized mattresses say) is never a good thing for an industry. TPX and MFRM weren't the only bedding companies getting whacked by the market. Sleep Number maker Select Comfort (SCSS) and Sealy (ZZ) also plunged. The mattress companies are starting to look no better than airline stocks.
Sweet dreams.
